The city of Decatur is named after Stephen Decatur, a 19th century U.S. Naval hero. The city’s goal is to “retain a strong connection to its history, while preparing for the future with managed growth and responsible development.” Once every ten years, an expansive community conversation helps chart the course for Decatur’s next decade. “Destination 2030” is a Strategic Plan that facilitates community roundtable conversations in which they apply their best thinking to making their city “an even better place to live, work, and play.” The Strategic Plan guides city government at the highest level by providing direction on policies to bring the community’s vision for Decatur’s future to life.
Another action was the search for qualified firms for design and installation services of a solar photovoltaic and battery system for the city’s public works building during times of grid outage. This center is a fueling center for their cars and trucks.
Current Energy Storage was selected to provide the battery energy storage system (BESS) at the Decatur Public Works Building. An MG 125 kW-220 kWh was installed and paired with the site’s 100 kW PV system in February of 2023.
